Comfortable cottage, peaceful location

Property: Grand Longere

We had a lovely stay at Ty Hir with our daughters (ages 12 and 14) in August 2016. The location is beautifully rural and peaceful. The only noise is birdsong. During the entire week of our stay only one car passed by on the small country lane/track . The cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped with many thoughtful touches (soap in bathrooms, cleaning supplies in kitchen). Good selection of games, books and DVDs. Communication with Maria was terrific – she answered all our questions thorough and swiftly before our visit. Local (English) caretakers were very helpful as well. The information provided on their website (lostinfinistere.com) and in the information guide within the cottage was absolutely amazing! Fantastic beaches within 45 mins to 1 hour drive on the Finistere peninsula. We were really pleased to have British television during the Olympics. The only (minor) sticking point was the quality of broadband which was a challenge with two teenage daughters! It was just about adequate to send email, but not for searching the web. Overall, a lovely week spent in one of our favourite parts of France and I would happily return.

Can I say first that you have a wonderful gite. We have visited Northern France 4 times in the last 4 years and have always been lucky with good accommodation but, Ty Hir was by far the most comfortable and warming which makes a short break to France so more rewarding. The weather wasn't that kind but it only rained one day......which didn't really matter as we found a full itinerary of places to go and visit during our week there.

Our favourite spots were Huelgoat and the "snack bar" at the river at Chateauneuf du faou....neither of us were ever dissapointed with our meals. You have found such a beautiful corner of France for your gite and I say.....Bravo. We found the gite spotless when we arrived....it's a beautiful place that we both appreciated.....thank you.

From the moment we first saw Petite Longere we fell in love with it. The position was peaceful, the grounds delightful and the accommodation homely, comfortable and welcoming. Well equipped both inside and out, accurate description, and facilities excellent for a one week stay or much longer in the future. The use of well maintained bicycles were an added bonus which we enjoyed using. The Huelgoat area and town is delightful with excellent and welcoming restaurants after long walks in the magical forest with huge and impressive rock formations, natural features and flowers. The owner provided a friendly and informative service before and after our stay which we would definitely recommend to others. The property was clean and tidy and ready to begin a memorable welcome break. An excellent selection of local reading material helped us plan our days and future visits. The Petit Longere was much more than Petit with spacious accommodation and storage. We felt very much at home there. A beautiful retreat - Une belle retraite.

We have just had a great week staying in the Grand Longere, and would like to recommend it to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the Breton atmosphere.
The property itself is sunny, calm and extremely welcoming; we instantly felt at home. It has just the right mix of comfort and facilities, without feeling too "precious". The owners have left books, games and CD for guests to enjoy, (I particularly enjoyed the old rock CDs, Deep Purple, The Who, Jethro Tull......)
The gîte,s location is great; Usually we charge about, visiting as many places as possible, but we just couldn't be bothered, preferring to spend our time with the children, just messing about in the stream, hunting for grasshoppers and walking to and from Plouye to have a beer in Ty Elsie (A quirky Cymru/Franco bar, run by a charmingly eccentric welshman) We also found Huelgoat charming and had some great meals there, and explored the rocky valleys and woodland.

PS if using a sat-nav, make sure you are to the north of the property, unless you have an amphibious vehicle, as the route takes you through a stream, (Definitely not to be forded)

The property is very well maintained with every possible thing you could require. There are even novels, DVD's and CD's for your use. There is a very comprehensive information folder containing details of nearby towns and places of interest as well as slightly longer excursions. The property is situated in a quiet secluded valley with accompanying bird song and the occasional peacock. The downstairs bedroom is very useful and the other two bedrooms are on the first floor reached by individual staircases which are a little steep. The property is well maintained and was very clean on our arrival. The caretakers were very friendly and helpful.

The towns of Huelgoat and Chateaulin were very picturesque,La Roche Tremblante is well worth a visit as are the Crozon Peninsula and Douarnenez. The hotel by the lake in Hoelgoat does very good coffee.

I would thoroughly recommend this property to friends and relatives.

Ty Hir was correctly described, so no surprises. Excellent route details. The property was in good order and complete. The locality is rural and very quiet, with lots of birds and other wildlife. We enjoyed the large garden, & local walks which were peaceful and traffic free. There is a beautiful small river a short walk away which we often visited. We would certainly recommend it for a couple or a small family. Just one reservation the wooden staircase needs care for small children or nocturnal visits to the downstairs bathroom.

The Gite was beautiful.  There was everything provide with no expense spared.  The beds were extremely comfortable with lovely views across the countryside and very quiet.  The walk with the dogs was great, a lovely lane down to a river for hours of fun splashing in the water and chasing sticks. There was plenty of information and maps so we could plan our days and nothing was very far away. The beaches were brilliant, nearest one about 45 minutes away,  we had a great walk through the huge rocks at Huelgoat and a cider tasting just up the road from the Gite.  The whole holiday was delightful and I have already recommended it to several people.  Although we had beautiful weather when we were there I can only imagine how cosy and warm it would be to have a holiday in the cooler months, something we may have to sample at a later date. So if you are looking for a quiet, rural, restful piece of luxury then this is place for you with the added bonus of a miriad of activities in easy reach. 5/5

Had a wonderful week in La petite Longère, a very well-equipped clean and tidy cottage in the countryside near Huelgoat, Brittany. We visited both the west coast and north coast during our stay (approx.45 mins/1hour) Exploring the rocks at Huelgoat was great fun as was the local cider tasting. Didn't get time to use the bikes that were provided, perhaps next time! 5/5

We stayed for one week this Summer in the Petit Longere. It is situated in a lovely quite area. We enjoyed some great walking and cycling from the Gite, also in the Huelgoat Forest where we saw a Pinemarten. The garden was lovely with lots of lovely butterflies, we also had a daily visit from a Hummingbird Hawkmoth. One day I turned around to see a hare watching me. We enjoyed seeing and feeding the Feral cats, the kittens were cute. The inside of the Gite was very nice and well equipped. We found the Website very helpful. Also as we were three weeks into a four week tour, it was great to have wifi to Skype our Grandchildren. Thank you to Maria and Andy for a nice stay at their Gite. 5/5

Wonderful gite in a beautiful area.  Very clean and tidy and well equipped with everything you need and more.  The weather was not on our side for the large part, but still managed to enjoy the garden, local walks, views and the river at the end of the lane.  Ideally situated to visit both local and further afield attractions. Such a peaceful location. Perfect for all the family young and old and our dogs had a brilliant time too. Highly recommended. :-) 5/5

My husband, my 18-year old and I spent a fabulous week at the Petit Longere. This is a real home from home and your every need has been catered for. I was a bit skeptical on how I was going to keep my son entertained for a week away from home, but his face lit up when he saw the DVD’s, he spent a lazy morning on the Thursday glued to the TV whilst we enjoyed the market in nearby Huelgoat.

Its in a tranquil setting surrounded by farmland, we spent one evening watching the progress of the harvest in the field opposite whilst enjoying a few bottles of Cidre, and at dusk we watched the bats around the eaves. Being an early riser, I enjoyed my tranquil mornings sat in the sun with a cuppa and a good book, only being disturbed by the feral cats & kittens going about their day and the sparrows nest just by the front door.

The roads are very quiet so the boys took advantage of the bikes to explore one afternoon, more book reading for me! Whilst it is very rural, we were not far from lots of places for day trips. We loved Concarneau & Quimper. And there was plenty to see and do on the peninsula around Crozin & Cameret-sur-Mer, some amazing beaches if the weather is onside. A lovely cottage in a tranquil rural setting, just perfect for a relaxing week exploring Finistere. 5/5

The property on arrival was exactly as described to us with very good directions. We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and fully made up beds which was a treat after our long journey from Scotland. The gite itself was gorgeous from the outside, very 'French' and extremely well cared for. When we entered we were impressed with the amount of space that we had in the large welcoming kitchen area with the wood burning stove. Plenty of room for the two adults and three children in our party, not forgetting our dog! The main bedroom was cosy and extremely comfortable with an ensuite. The children's room upstairs was also a very good size and they too had their own toilet. There was an area of the gite that we didn't need to venture into to - but would have accommodated a few more - to give you an idea of the space inside! The main living room was cosy and snug, again with a wood burning stove and although we didn't need to use it it would have provided plenty of heat if we had required it! The game boards provided hours of entertainment in the evening although there was a television also. There were also bikes which we used to explore the local roads. The kitchen area was extremely well equipped with everything that you would need including extras that we forgot! The use of the washing machine was also fantastic during our stay, with a drying area to the front. The gite was comfortable and very clean which was wonderful, but most of all we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we arrived. I would not hesitate to recommend this property at all! We loved the fact that it was remote and that it was out of the way. We loved the fact that there was a river at the bottom of the lane with no one around. Towns and cities within easy driving distance gave us the opportunity to explore further afield and return to our little haven in the late afternoon! It was exactly what we were looking for - and we were not disappointed!! 5/5

An absolute gem. Really loved the property, it's location and warm, relaxing feel throughout. We found the gite via a Tweet on Twitter and as we were in Brittany for 6 nights, following a wedding in Laval, we decided that the information stated on the gite's website 'ticked' all the boxes for our requirements. We were delighted when we arrived and realised it exceeded our expectations. Roomy yet cosy, clean, well-equipped and perfect for a 'get-away-from-it-all' vacation. Free Wifi and reasonable mobile phone coverage too. The gardens/outside areas were again well-equipped with chairs, tables, BBQ, games etc

Cannot stress enough what a fabulous time we had and would love to return one day. Contact with the owner was prompt, professional yet friendly and being able to pay via UK bank transfer was a bonus. 5/5

We had a lovely time staying in the Petit Longere, it is not so petite the living room is spacious, the kitchen has everything you will need, the bedrooms are also quite large as is the bathroom and utility room. The property is full of character and in a lovely location, there are stunning views out of the bedroom window when you get up in the morning.  A very peaceful location the main noises you  will hear are cows, sheep,  cats  meowing and birds singing. Both the front and the back of the house have plenty of garden furniture, great for alfresco dining, reading a book or lying in the sun and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.   Our children had a great time playing in the large garden, paddling in the paddling pools, playing football with the football goals that are provided.  In the evening we sat around the Chiminea (outdoor fire) keeping warm and drinking local cider, beer or wine, one evening toasting marshmallows.  The book shelves are stocked with books both for adults and children as well as DVD's. If you want to eat out there a plenty of places to try in Huelgoat and the surrounding towns if you like seafood a trip to Roscoff is worth it just for the lunch.   There are  also supermarkets close by to stock up with provisions as well as other amenities. The location is great, close to Huelgoat with its Gigantic boulders.  A river to walk to from the Petit Longere a great place for a paddle on a hot day.  There are so many other places to visit in the area that we didn't have time in a week to do everything we wanted to so we will definitely be coming back to the Petit Longere in the future for another visit. 5/5

We loved our stay at your gite Ty Hir. Everything was perfect - even the weather improved whilst we were there!  The gite had everything we required and was so cosy, especially the bed. The local cats were well fed whilst we were there and we watered your plants.

Explored the area in depth and went to most of the local markets and local towns mingling with the locals who were patient with our poor French. Went on quite a few walks in the region ( got lost quite often but no probs - always enjoy an adventure!) we are Aussies! Thoroughly enjoyed all our experiences in Finistere. Must return one day.

This gite was all it said it was.

Maria was great to deal with and all info she sent was accurate and lots of info in the gite as well, we had done the area before so knew where we were going but anyone new to the area will be ok after reading the info.

As for the gite itself, so peaceful and quiet and a great place for kids to play safely.

The gite was well equipped and clean especially the kitchen which was good when you love to cook like I do, it was comfortable in the lounge and the beds were good as well. We loved the wood burner as well made it real cosy on dark nights.

Can't say enough about this gite, will be going back someday I am sure.

The cottage was great value. It was very spacious and well equipped. It's a quiet location and within easy reach of the local villages and less than an hour from the coast which offers fantastic beaches. Plenty to see in the area but August in France can be quiet and we found there wasn't a huge choice of restaurants.

The property was as described and the instructions on how to get there easy to follow. The property itself was very comfortable and very well equipped - just about everything you might think you needed was there. The house was ideal for anyone wanting a quiet base to stay, but the nearest supermarket (which was not huge but had everything you might need) and restaurants, of which there was a choice of several, were within easy driving distance, in Huelgoat. We were very lucky with the weather - it only rained a couple of times and that was during the night. The days were hot and sunny and it was lovely to come back after a day out and be able to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine in the large garden. We would certainly recommend the house to anyone wanting a stay in that area.

We found the Petit Longere just as it was advertised, it was clean, tidy and well maintained and so would highly recommend this gite to anyone looking for an experience of rural Brittany.

The gite is situated close to the town of Huelgoat which has a decent selection of restaurants as well as local supermarket facilities. We particularly liked the little family restaurant in the town square (sorry I can't remember the name, but it was about 3 buildings to the left of the little local supermarket in the main town square); however it did seem to only open on certain days, so would recommend booking in advance.

It is worth remembering that the locals really do close up most shops for 2 or more hours during the middle of the day, but we found them all to be very friendly and helpful (even to tourists like ourselves with very poor French language).

The Thursday market at Huelgoat was definitely worth a visit with some great produce on offer.

All in all with thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight stay even despite two or three days of bad weather.

Highly recommended.

When we saw the property on the website, we were very impressed, as we had always wanted to visit Brittany and when we arrived at the Petit Longere we were not disappointed!

The properties were exactly as the pictures represented, so beautiful and inviting, with huge well kept gardens, surrounding both gites. The lovely stable door opened into the cosy living room, which leads into the homely, well kitted out kitchen and large dining table, where a bottle of wine was waiting for us!

All the rooms are clean, with plenty of space and nice pieces of rustic furniture.

We had an amazing week, the other gite was empty and the weather was glorious, the temperature rose well tino the late 30's c!

The scenery in Brittany is breathtaking, but we found ourselves quite often just taking the short 10 minute drive to the nearest little town of Huelgoat, It has the most beautiful lake, with creperies and bars looking onto it.

I really needed somewhere of beauty and spirit to escape to and Ty Hir offered this, . You could do as much or a little as you felt like, There is even a little river, situated at the bottom of the lane of the property, where I could have watched the dragonflys fluttering for hours.

Ideal for cyclists, ramblers and those who just want to chill. An hours drive will take you to the coast

Thanks Andy and Maria

Ty Hir is set in beautiful Brittany countryside. The Gite is set in about an acre of gardens with mature trees offering a great adventure playground for children. There is space for a game of football with the lawns mowed twice during our stay. The Gite itself is charming from the outside and is unmistakably French with its shuttered windows. The shed at the rear has bikes for your use.

The larger of the two Gites has more space than you could wish for. The kitchen is large with a brilliant long table that could probably cater for the last supper. Everything is there that you need to feed a family, it's very homely. The main living room has all the board games, DVD's and a mini library, It's a wonderfully cosy room with a log burning stove.

The bedroom downstairs is en suite with a really comfortable bed. The upstairs bedroom was brilliant for the children, a real den.

In summary I can't recommend Ty Hir highly enough. A house that is comfortable to live in, inside or out.

The best part for me was the peace and quiet of the location which was divine.

Arriving in Roscoff at dusk we had an uneventful one-hour drive to Ty Hir until we turned off the D17 to be accompanied by a relay of barn owls for the last half-mile. A welcome note and a bottle of corbier were waiting on the kitchen table. This was a good start for our family holiday with my daughter, two teenage grandsons and myself (old granddad). The beds were made; everything was spotless clean having been attended by a charming English couple John and Suzette that afternoon. The unpacking of our car was soon accomplished, followed by a snack and we were ready for bed. The sun shone brightly for the next week. Our days were spent mainly sightseeing locally, planned using the information kept in the lounge followed by a late afternoon nap in the shade of the garden. During that week Maria made a short visit staying next door in the Petit Longere, spending most of her time attending the garden. The surrounding countryside is sparsely populated but with many hidden treasures to explore. The second week the weather was not so kind and not so hot enabling us to explore further afield such as on the interesting Crozen Peninsula. During the latter week a very friendly French family occupied the Petit Longere with two teenage girls. Fortunately their English was better than our French!
The gite furnishings were very appropriate for a converted barn with French features, but included English TV which was useful evening entertainment during the Olympics. For those who wish to get away from the TV the lounge was well stocked with games to keep the children happy. For anyone who enjoys the countryside and does not require the bright lights Ty Hir was a gem that did not break the bank balance.
Many thanks to Andy and Maria.

We had lots of fun and found the cottage to be perfect and spent most of our time at the lovely kitchen table sipping wine and eating home cooked mussels, baggettes and cheese.
We loved the fact that it was so remote and we never hardly heard a sound from anyone else at all but made friends with chickens and no doubt would have tamed the cat if we had stayed for a week longer.

What more could you ask from a holiday in Brittany, largely empty roads, pretty countryside, plenty of wildlife, and a very comfortable Gite tucked away down a country lane in the heart of western brittany.

Although the owners called the accommodation 'rustic' we found it to be quite comfortable and very clean. We had one chilly evening which gave us an excuse to try out one of the two cast iron wood burners which heated up the downstairs in no time and gave a lovely ambience to the kitchen/dining area while we ate supper.

If you like walking you're in for a treat as the Gite is actually on the route of a circular walk (called a Passerelle I think) which takes you through some lovely countryside with lots of wildlife to see, and you can understand why its called Brittany as without the french and breton signs you could easily be forgiven for thinking your in (albeit a warmer version of) Devon or Cornwall.

The nearest town is Huelgoat, only 15-20minutes away, where there is a Intermarche supermarket and filling station which stocked everything we needed during our stay. There is a smaller shop in Collerec, 10minutes away) for things like fresh bread and those daily essentials

In Huelgoat you will also find the 'Chaos'. An area littered with granite rocks, some the size of cars or bigger....its a must see on your itinerary!

All in all we enjoyed a lovely relaxing break at Ti Hir and is definately on our list of places to return to in the future

My husband and I had a wonderful relaxing holiday. The property was very clean and tidy when we arrived and very comfortable. We were both very impressed with the well stocked kitchen which had everything we could need. The information provided at the cottage was very helpful and ment we could easily find the local supermarket and visit lots of interesting places during our stay. We loved the peaceful setting and enjoyed some lovely local walks. We would definatly recommend this property.

Our Holiday at Ty Hir

Property: Grand Longere

We have rented many French Gites over the years, and Ty Hir ranks with the best of them. The place is well furnished and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of cooking pans and all the crockery you could want (its amazing how many places we have been to in the past, that are supposed to cater for lots of people but only have 2 saucepans and 4 plates!)

The evenings were chilly in September, but the log burning stove kept us toasty as we watched UK Satelite TV. The location of Ty Hir is very rural and quiet, but pretty close to towns with all the shops you could want. We used Ty Hir as a base to tour around Brittany by Motorcycle, and it proved to be an excellent location for this, as the north and south coast were in easy reach. We found the inland roads to be in great condition and almost emtpy (try the D769 Poullaouen to Morlaix)

Communications with the owners, Maria and Andy, were excellent. They were even able to fill the fridge with groceries for us before we got there. Top marks!

A Lovley Stay!

Our family (including 2 boys aged 9 and 7) had a lovley stay at Ty Hir this summer. The owners Maria and Andy could not
have been more helpful in our communications before we arrived. The gite is lovley, the pictures are completely accurate but it is more beautiful in the flesh. It could not be better supplied with everything you could want for a self-catering holiday and the supply of Books, DVD's and Board Games was a lovley touch and we made great use of them. The surrounding area is amazing, our boys loved going into Hulegoat and walking through the forest and climbing on the rocks. It reminded me of my favourite parts of the Peak District at home.  Within an hours' drive we also found the 'Le Recure - 3 Cures' Park which is an amusement park (similar size and ride types to the Gullivers' Parks in the UK) which at a cost of 12.50Euro's each was perfect for our children and an excellent value day out. Also within an hour's drive you can find the lovley beeches of Brittany if you fancy a day by the coast. If you prefer to stay local, however there is so much to explore and discover with lovley countryside and beautiful villages and Petite Longere was the perfect place to retun to after a busy day out. I cannot praise this property highly enough, we had a really lovley quality family holiday... Thank you!

I just wanted to let you know that we very much enjoyed staying in the cottage. I can’t say anything negative about anything related to our  accommodation. Although I have to say that on the day when we arrived we were led by the satellite navigation system to the other side of the river. The houses there were not very inviting and for about 30 min while we were looking/hoping for the correct place I was cursing myself for booking the cottage on the internet. We loved the place, Oliver was in love with the cows and Fiona liked having a room for herself.

Everything was really as described on the web site. We had lots of rain during the first week but the second week was brilliant. Thank you very much and we might contact you again for a second round. My colleague here is interested so you might hear from her. Best wishes.
